It’s 2am and after a few restless hours, your up for the night. Or perhaps your haven’t even gone to bed yet. While people often joke about not getting enough sleep, insomnia can have severe consequences. From drifting away behind the steering wheel, to problems with concentration, memory, or a weakened immune system, insomnia can become life-threatening if it persists too long.

What to do? Here is one important fact. Our brains are designed to work with the sun, light means wake up! When going to sleep, it’s essential to avoid all light emitting screens at least one hour before bed. Yes, that means no computers, tablets or smart phones in bed. It may seem like a small thing, but even a little light can have an effect on sleep.

If the above doesn’t work, it may be time for medication. Melatonin is available over the counter and will help you fall asleep. However, don’t expect it to work all night, it doesn’t last long enough in the body. Benadryl is commonly used, but this is not recommended long term due to the side effects. If your tired of struggling, it’s time for professional help. We offer insomnia treatments that work to help you get the good night’s sleep you have so desperately been needing.
